Organic, Fairtrade & Ethical T-Shirt Printing
Here at Shirtworks we love our planet and believe in helping to save it through ethical business. ‘Organic’ and ‘Fairtrade’ have become bywords, certainly in the t-shirt printing industry, and many customers are becoming much more discerning about the garments and products that they buy. Businesses are being compelled to consider what impact their business is having on the planet - both socially and environmentally.
One industry that is under scrutiny is the cotton clothing and t-shirt printing market as it seems to have encompassed many of the areas of concern: sweatshops, child labour, pesticides and deforestation. It is not surprising therefore that many of our customers are starting to take a real interest in the ‘purity’ of their printed t-shirts and promotional clothing lines.

Global Organic Textile Standard
GOTS is an organisation consisting of four member organisations, the OTA (USA), IVN (Germany), Soil association (UK) and JOCA (Japan). Their mission is that organic textiles will become a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people’s lives and the environment.Global Organic Textile Standard
Their mission is the development, implementation, verification, protection and promotion of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This standard stipulates requirements throughout the supply chain for both ecology and labour conditions in textile and apparel manufacturing using organically produced raw materials. Organic production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides and fertilisers. In addition, organic production relies on adequate animal husbandry and excludes genetic modification.
Shirtworks is a member of GOTS and our membership details can be found here. We now are able to offer a fantastic selection of organic clothing for printing and embroidery that has been designed with style in mind and colours to suit all tastes. GOTS requires our printing to use approved inks which are not as vibrant as oil based inks. Our sales team can advise you on what will work for your project.
Soil Association Accreditation
